Trinitas Regional Medical Center selects Hyland Software’s OnBase Solution

New Jersey’s “2012 Most Wired, Most Improved” hospital integrates OnBase with Sunrise EMR to reach paperless goals.

Providing compassionate care to all patients is a top priority for employees at Trinitas Regional Medical Center, located in Elizabeth, New Jersey. The 549 bed, full-service hospital, recognized as one of the nation’s Most Wired, Most Improved hospitals by Hospitals & Health Networks magazine in 2012, will integrate Hyland Software’s OnBase enterprise content management (ECM) with its Allscripts Sunrise electronic medical record (EMR), to streamline processes, eliminate paper and provide higher quality patient care.

Trinitas will be using Hyland’s medical records manager (MRM) solution to automate access to patient files and deficiency management processes within its Allscripts EMR.

“We were looking for a solution that would complement our Sunrise EMR and help us reach our goal of becoming a paperless facility,” said Judy Comitto, Trinitas’ vice president of information technology and chief information officer. “By integrating our EMR with the OnBase MRM solution we will have access to all patient information -creating a complete patient file.”

The integration will also decrease cycle times and costs associated with processing patient charts.  “The MRM solution is a secure resource that allows multiple users to instantly access health information, streamlining processes involved in preparing a patient’s chart for processing,” said Dan West, Hyland’s healthcare solutions manager.

Trinitas expects to see a strong return on investment with its OnBase solution in its Medical Records Deficiency department by eliminating expenses associated with paper, including filing, retrieval and printing.  The medical center has plans to expand its solution, and increase efficiency in Admitting, Finance and Business departments.

While patients at healthcare organizations reap the rewards of cutting edge medical technology, back-office operations are left struggling with outdated, manual processes.  In an effort to maximize cash flow and maintain profitability, healthcare companies are slowly transforming the way they do business.  The goal is to optimize limited IT and accounting resources, lower costs and increase productivity, without compromising the quality of patient care.

With this goal in sight, Accounts Payable, Treasury and Procurement departments are tasked with managing cash, preserving strong supplier relationships and managing visibility into spend.  Like medical technology designed to help patients, automation solutions like Hyland Software’s solution work to drive cost saving opportunities to maximize efficiencies that will positively impact a healthcare provider’s bottom line.
