Mercy/ROi Implement SciQuest Solutions for User-Friendly Health Care Supply E-Procurement

Building on their 2002 success with the creation of Resource Optimization & Innovation (ROi), Mercy has implemented SciQuest’s solutions to create a user-friendly, intuitive online shopping environment. As a leading health care provider in the United States (treating over 3 million patients annually) Mercy/ROi now features a system that greatly streamlines the procurement of health care supplies.

At only a few months old, already a number of cost and time saving efficiencies have been witnessed. Says Matthew Mentel, Executive Director, Technology & Business Solution, ROi, “Our goal is to provide our clinicians, members, and end-users with an accurate, user-friendly and content rich way to procure supplies through a single tool.” With the help of SciQuest, Mercy/ROi has achieved this and more.

In this new system, which builds on their existing Materials Management Information System (MMIS), Mercy/ROi has complete control over supplier catalogs. Additionally, information regarding supplier contracts is readily at-hand which further speeds procurement.

Initial planning by Mercy/ROi aimed toward creating a marketplace similar to popular eCommerce sites such as Amazon.com. This and more was accomplished: “The SciQuest solution was so user-friendly that the end user training was completed in minutes. It was as simple as logging on and shopping for needed supplies,” says Mentel. The new SciQuest search tool allows product images to aid in searching, as well as product descriptions up to 225 characters, a vast improvement over previous abbreviation-laden descriptions necessary in MMIS.
