BancTec, a global leader in document management solutions and outsourcing services, along with its partner CCube Solutions, has been selected by the Aneurin Bevan Health Board (ABHB) to deliver an Electronic Document and Records Management System (EDRMS) and related services for the Health Board’s clinical users.
“BancTec’s solution was cost-effective for the Health Board, providing both a return on investment and offering the most economically advantageous tender,” said James Silcock, Business Development Director of BancTec. “We are especially proud to be selected since ABHB is the first in NHS Wales to procure an EDRMS.”
BancTec was selected on the basis of its delivery approach, overall solution, quality of service and costs. As the pioneering Health Board for NHS Wales, lessons learned from this procurement will be fed into any future nationwide procurement that follows.
ABHB will first focus on scanning and publishing health records, and will then move on to other elements of the solution functionality in order to digitally capture information to minimize paper. The EDRMS will introduce electronic forms and workflow to maximize productivity and increase quality and patient safety.
Strategically, NHS Wales has developed a clinical portal known as the Welsh Clinical Portal (WCP), which is a part of its national clinical information systems strategy. ABHB requires an initial integration to its local clinical portal known as Clinical Work Station (CWS), while it awaits development and full rollout of the national WCP.
The solution will deliver the main application software for an EDRMS with close integration with CWS and ultimately WCP, interfacing with Myrddin PAS, National Active Directory and eventually the national Master Patient Index. The Health Records Service will administer the system, and the installation will be on a new infrastructure and cabling scheme. The solution is based on CCube Solutions EDRMS software, which is a fully integrated document scanning and records management system. BancTec will be providing the implementation support, software support and maintenance services.
More and more healthcare organizations are exploring Electronic Document and Records Management Systems in an effort to organize vast amounts of paper and provide staff the ability to quickly click through patient history for desired information rather than manually thumbing through stacks of paper in an attempt to locate a piece of data.
